TAKE ACTION!

PREVENTION AND HEALTH REFORM Massachusetts is about to embark on the next phase of health reform.  Join us to ensure that any new health reform legislation includes investments in proven community prevention strategies.

Senate Update - May 14th: The Senate version of the bill released last week includes the creation of a Prevention and Wellness Trust Fund, funded at $20 million per year, to support community-based initiatives to combat preventable health conditions.

Senate floor debate will begin May 15th.  Please contact your Senator today and ask him or her to support the Prevention Trust and to support amendment #30 by Senator Chandler to eliminate the automatic sunset of the Trust funding after 5 years. To learn more, read our letter to the Senate here.

STATE BUDGET PROCESS
The House completed debate on their budget in late April, with nearly $10 million in funding for community-based programs at DPH added though amendments during floor debate.  MPHA led the effort on four successful amendments, including on Health Promotion & Disease Prevention, Environmental Health, Food Protection, and Vital Records. The Senate is up next, with a proposal from Senate Ways and Means expected on May 16th.
