Keynote Speaker Dr. Brian Smedley, Vice President and Director of the Health Policy Institute of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, will address what it will take to ignite and sustain a health equity movement that can produce real change in—and real opportunities for health– here in Massachusetts and across the country.

Brian Smedley, Ph.D., Vice President and Director of the Health Policy Institute of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies

Dr. Smedley is a national thought leader on health equity and national health reform. Under Dr. Smedley's leadership, the Joint Center's Place Matters Initiative works to eliminate health disparities by identifying their underlying causes, defining strategies to address them, and working intensively with interdisciplinary teams around the country to create change. As a Program Officer with the Institute of Medicine, he was instrumental in the research and publication of two landmark reports regarding health equity, In the Nation's Compelling Interest: Ensuring Diversity in the Health Care Workforce and Unequal Treatment: Confronting Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care.
